There are so many opinions about carbs these days. It tends to be a pretty big topic in the health and fitness community. Are they good? Should they be avoided at all cost? Why is Keto so popular? These are some common questions that come up when the word carbs is mentioned.

Lets break this down and get to the truth about carbs.

  1. Carbs are actually good for you.

In fact they are needed to provide your body with energy to be able to function daily. They are the main source of energy. Carbs are one of the three main nutrients found in food. (Which also makes it hard to completely avoid). Your body breaks down carbohydrates into glucose. Glucose can be stored in the liver and muscles if its isn't used right away.

2. Choose whole grains whenever possible.

Of course, like most things in life, carbs in excessive amounts are not going to be good for you. A great way to still be able to enjoy carbs without having to completely restrict yourself or feel as guilty, switch to whole grains. They offer lots of nutrients that your body needs, like vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

3. Be mindful of fiber.

Fiber is a type of carbohydrate. It is also a great way to help you feel fuller longer as your body cannot break down most fibers. Diets high in fiber also may help with stomach or intestinal problems. They may also help lower cholesterol and blood sugar. Fiber can be found in fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans, and whole grains.

Carbs are good in more ways than one!

Everything in moderation and keep an eye out for nutritional value of the food you are consuming such as fiber content and whole grains.
